How to Use Your Dilation Support 1 Kit: A Simple Guide to Gentle Dilation Therapy

Dilators are used to gently stretch and relax the vaginal muscles. They are commonly recommended to support pelvic floor therapy, vaginal tightness, pain with penetration, post-surgical recovery, menopause-related changes, and conditions such as vaginismus.

This guide explains how to clean, prepare, insert, and progress safely using a 3-piece dilator set.

Step 1: Clean the Dilators Before Use

Proper cleaning helps prevent infections and protects sensitive vaginal tissue.

1. Spray each dilator with an antibacterial toy cleaner.

2. Leave the cleaner on for the recommended time (usually 1–2 minutes).

3. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

4. Pat dry with a clean towel.

5. Store in the supplied Satin Bag or in a clean, dry place.

Always clean the dilators before and after each use.

Step 2: Apply Lubricant

Lubrication is essential for comfort and safety when using vaginal dilators.

1. Apply a generous amount of water-based lubricant to the dilator.

2. Apply a small amount to the vaginal opening as well.

Avoid silicone-based lubricants, as they may damage the material of the dilators.

Step 3: Choose the Correct Dilator Size

A 3-piece set allows gradual progression.

• Always begin with the smallest dilator, even if it feels very small.
• The goal is comfort and relaxation, not stretching quickly.
• Only move to the next size when the current size feels comfortable and no longer causes tension or pain.

Progressing too quickly can cause discomfort or muscle guarding.

Step 4: Find a Comfortable Position

Choose a position that allows your body to relax:

• Lying on your back with knees bent
• Lying on your side
• Semi-reclined with support pillows

Take slow, deep breaths before inserting the dilator to help relax the pelvic muscles.

Step 5: Insert the Dilator Gently

1. Hold the lubricated dilator at the vaginal opening.

2. Slowly and gently insert the tip, angling slightly toward the lower back.

3. Insert only as far as feels comfortable.

4. Never force the dilator.

You may feel stretching or pressure, but you should not feel sharp pain. If pain occurs, stop and remove the dilator.

Step 6: Relax and Breathe

Once the dilator is inserted:

• Focus on slow, deep breathing
• Allow the pelvic muscles to soften and relax around the dilator
• You may gently hold the dilator in place without movement

Optional gentle movement:
• Very slowly move the dilator slightly in and out
• Or gently rotate it a small amount if comfortable

Start with 5–10 minutes per session.

Step 7: Gradual Progression

Use the same dilator size until:

• Insertion feels comfortable
• Muscles no longer tense around the dilator
• Breathing remains relaxed throughout use

Once comfortable:

• Progress to the next size
• Repeat the same gentle process
• Never rush progression

Consistency is more important than speed.

Step 8: What You Should and Should Not Feel

You should feel:

• Gentle stretching or pressure
• Gradual relaxation over time
• Increased comfort with insertion

You should NOT:

• Feel sharp or burning pain
• Hold your breath
• Push or force insertion

If pain persists, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

Step 9: Remove and Clean After Use

1. Gently remove the dilator.

2. Clean again using antibacterial toy cleaner.

3. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

4. Pat dry with a clean towel.

5. Store in a clean storage pouch or container.
